ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES

Two walls with wall painting, a pottery kiln, clay hollowware and other objects now in the Neue Residenz and discovered in excavations give visitors an impression of the high-quality accoutrements in Roman houses in Iuvavum-Salzburg almost two millennia ago. 

AN OVERVIEW OF SALZBURG’S HISTORY

Three models of the city and various objects illustrate the development of Salzburg from the Roman age until the early nineteenth century. The most important dates in the history of Salzburg are juxtaposed to international events. A fascinating time trip across 2,000 years. 

SALZBURG PANORAMA

The Panorama Museum begins behind the turnstile; its main attraction is a unique cycloramic painting measuring 26 metres in width and five metres in height. It shows the City of Salzburg and its surroundings seen from the Fortress of Hohensalzburg, painted by Johann Michael Sattler between 1825 and 1829. In addition, the museum has on show in alternating sequence 24 richly detailed views from all over the world, created by his son Hubert.
